Weeds and Moss

Weeds and Moss

Weeds survive much better than grass in lawns as they have a long root system getting to all the water and nutrients that they need to survive and spread. Moss meanwhile loves damp shady areas, just the areas that grass hates.

Key Points:

  • A strong lush healthy lawn will go a long way to preventing infestation of weeds and moss
  • Remember however that no matter how good your care of the lawn birds and the wind will continuously spread new seeds and weeds even on a healthy lawn
  • Weeds take away important water and nutrients from localised grass in times of drought
  • Regular mowing helps to kill off many weeds
  • However some weeds will spread by mowing, so to help reduce this impact make sure a grass box is used
  • Remove worm castes they provide the ideal environment for new weed and moss development
  • Good aeration and scarification will have a significant effect on weed and mosses
  • Correct lawn management– feeding treatments of weeds and moss, seasonal treatments will build a healthier, weed and moss resistant lawn
